Super Stevie!

The Office is Going to the Dogs

Introducing our most recent employee on the books: Super Stevie! Owned by Jay, Stevie is taking the office by storm. Or by nap. He is a phenomenal napper. Most people do not even realise he is there, that's how good he is at napping. Get to know Stevie from his own words:

Job Title: Office Dog Intern
Details of job: Sleeping most of the time and waiting for treats!
Favorite part of working at WSR: Getting treats!
Benefits of working for a small company: TREATS....haven't we been over this? And getting to ride in the car everyday.
Common mistake you see that would make life easier if corrected: Always keep an eye out for us little dogs! Although I don't know how you could miss me with my handsome ears!
Favorite local food(WNY)/favorite thing to do on the weekend?: I LOVE Freshpet shredded chicken, that stuff is the best! In my spare time, I like to visit my local Petsmart and get my Greenies and Blue Buffalo treats!
Favorite caffeinated beverage: Just water for this guy, thanks!
How do you take your coffee?: How about treats instead? I take them directly from your hand, thanks! Tricks aren't really my thing.

So there you have it. We clearly feed these dogs way too much. What about the office workers? We need treats too, please! Management? Hello?

Yours, in caffeination,
Lindsay

The Top Dog at WSR?

Newest Contender for Top Dog

Our dog team has grown in numbers! Specifically from one to two (some days we even have THREE). But our new official number two is this keen girl. When she's awake and not trying to snuggle behind you on your chair, she is ready for action! And that action is laying in wait to steal Charlie's toys. Also trying to get biscuits before Charlie. I present to you:

Kiki Weldon
Owned by the Inventory Team, but does little work with inventory as she is unable to count. Or stay awake for longer than an hour. Which is required here at WSR. The staying awake bit...some of us have questionable counting skills...

Job Title: Office Dog Assistant (assistant to the real top dog, Charlie Weldon)
Details of Job: Getting my beauty rest 20 hours of the day. The other four hours are spent working hard for those biscuits from the UPS and FedEx guys!
Favorite part of working at WSR?: Getting more attention than Charlie. Because I'm cuter! (Note from management: Umm, we do not discriminate based on looks. You both are cute and do equally little amount of work.)
What are the benefits of working for a smaller company?: Very family oriented! Which means no one judges me for snoring! (A kindness we do not bestow on the human members of the team.)
What is a common mistake you see that would make life easier if corrected?: ONLY GIVING TREATS TO CHARLIE. I may be little, but I'm here too, ya know.
Favorite local food?: Taste of the Wild Dog Food. I pride myself on being a bit of a foodie. The best is when Mom and Dad put gravy in my food! (Social Media Manager: Yes. I do appreciate gravy on all my food too.)
Favorite thing to do on the weekend?: My favorite thing to do on the weekend is to get even MORE beauty rest. And go for car rides. (SMM: Same.)
Favorite caffeinated beverage?: Just water for me please.
How do you take your coffee?: I don't - but I will take biscuit and a snuggle! (SMM: Same.)

So while I hope your week at work is going well, it's probably not as snuggly and biscuit oriented at Kiki's week is going. For that, I am sure, we are all sorry.

Stay warm, stay caffeinated,
Lindsay

A Weldon Welcome to Our New Employee

We'd like to take a moment and say welcome to our newest employee here at Weldon Service and Repair. The company has had a lot of growth lately and we're excited to have Robert Hinett as a part of our team to help us out! I asked him a lot of the same questions I used for our past employee profiles, so take a gander and get to know Rob.

Rob Hinett

Job Title: Inventory Assistant

You've been an employee for a little of over a week now, so what has surprised you about working at WSR? I've been really impressed with the amount of productivity in the office and the efficiency of my office mates. (Social Media Manager gives side eye to the office dogs. "Make a good impression y'all.")

Benefits of working for a small company?: The nicest part of working here is the office is full of family (read about the families at WSR: Amy and Brad, the webcrew, inventory manager, and owners), friendly coworkers, and morale boosting dogs. (More on that plural "dogs" tomorrow!)

In past jobs or this one, what is a common mistake that would make things easier if corrected?: A common mistake that myself and others commit is making assumptions in communication.

What local food (or restaurant) in WNY would you recommend to an out-of-towner?: I would recommend any and everybody in the Rochester area to try Johns Tex Mex and order the burrito that is larger than ones head. (Um, yes I'll have that. Sold.)

What is your favorite activity to do on weekends?: On the weekends I enjoy going to the movies and playing golf when possible.

What is your favorite caffeinated beverage?: Cappuccino

How do you take your coffee?: With a splash of cream.

We're excited to have Rob on the inventory team now that our area coverage has grown and we're taking on more and more customers. If you stop in the offices at WSR any time soon, make sure to tell Rob "hello!"

Welcome to the family Rob,
Lindsay

"Light the Night" and WSR Giving Back

Charity and finding ways of giving back have always been a part of Nathan and Lynn Weldon's upbringing. As big believers in helping out in the community, they wanted to use work life as a way of contributing to an organisation they both believed in.

Before starting WSR, Nathan and Lynn helped out with Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's "Light the Night" events in the Rochester and Buffalo, New York alongside Wilson Farms, a local convenience store chain. Wilson Farms provided the coffee and some volunteers, while Nathan and Lynn provided the machines and brewed all the coffee on site.

This participation started 10 years ago. Just 5 years ago, when Nathan and Lynn started Weldon Service and Repair, they committed further by being a Gold Sponsor and donating money weekly throughout the year as well. (A good option for small businesses who want to give back to charity!)

Through the past ten years of helping out with "Light the Night", we've gotten to know the Central New York LLS staff - a group of just four employees! They do an amazing job each year and their division's return to the cause is one of the highest in the country. We're so proud to participate alongside such an amazing bunch.

We've found ourselves looking forward to both the Rochester and the Buffalo event every year and working side by side with the same volunteers at our table.

Nathan and Lynn have long held the opinion that when you can give back, you should. Community growth and charity are important to our company. The pictures posted here are from this past September's Buffalo walk. Take a look and we hope to see you out there next year. If you do walk, make sure to come by for a cup of coffee at our table and say hello!

One of the walk's cutest participants.

Lanterns are lit to help light the walk around the park.
A sight to behold!

Company Owners

In 2010, the company where Nathan Weldon was employed as a service manager, was going out-of-business. One of the customers, Wilson Farms, still wanted Nathan on board as their go-to service provider. Nathan knew what he was good at and there were not a lot of companies hiring. So, together with his business savvy wife and co-worker/side-kick Jay, Nathan created Weldon Service & Repair with just one customer to start.

One of Nathan's many talents is recognizing the best qualities in people and utilizing the things they're good at. He looked to his family's individual talents first; having one son design the logos, another helping with the tech, and eventually both his daughters came on board bringing their different talents as well. Slowly but surely Nathan hired on more and more people, while still maintaining the feel and benefits of a small, family business.

Here's a little bit more about Lynn and Nathan Weldon. We hope you've enjoyed these employee profiles and getting to know our company a little better.

From the Very Beginning

From the very beginning when Nathan and Lynn Weldon formed Weldon Service & Repair we've had one man by our side the whole way. Jerry (Jay) has worked with Nathan many years prior to the formation of WSR. He's our Chief Financial Officer and so much more. He even holds a special place in the Office Dog's heart, who spends most his time staring down the treat jar in Jay's office. So here's a treat for you, a little bit about Jay!

Jerry Murphy

Favorite part of working for WSR: A lot of knowledge in the business here, always learning something new, and caring employers.
Benefits of working for a small company: Company is more flexible, and no corporate politics.
Common mistake you see that would make life easier if corrected: Lack of communications. Talk it out! Also customers not having a preventative maintenance program for equipment and not properly cleaning equipment to achieve the ultimate taste from their beverages.
Favorite local food(WNY) and favorite weekend activity: Tacos or Dinosaur BBQ, and singing and musicianship on the weekend.
Favorite  caffeinated beverage: Coffee with hazelnut flavoring.
How do you take your coffee?: Cream and splenda

We will be drawing a winner for our raffle on Wednesday, July 1st, so make sure you like any employee post and comment on that post on Facebook. You will be entered in for every comment and "like" you do, so make sure you increase your chances of winning by "liking" and commenting!

Favorite local food(CNY) and favorite weekend activity: I would recommend the Brae Loch in Cazenovia, and on weekends I enjoy snowmobiling in the winter and beating HPI R/C cars with my traxxas slash. (Editors Note: That sounds way more exciting than my weekends. So I'm going to steal that weekend idea, thanks Mike!)
